Did You Know….Rules for Email Marketing

email_marketing_campaignEmail marketing campaigns are a great way to keep in touch with current clients and gain new clients, but there are rules set up to protect consumers from receiving unsolicited emails.

The CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 was passed for this purpose.  The act sets the guidelines for what constitutes an email marketing campaign as well as provides details on how you can appropriately handle your campaign to meet the requirements.  In addition, it enforces stiff fines for those who violate the act.

If you are currently running an email marketing campaign considering reading the FTC’s CAN-SPAM Act: A Compliance Guide for Business.

If the guidelines aren’t quite sinking in after that, consider reading The CAN-SPAM Act: In Plain English from Infront.

Another suggestion: use an email company like Exact Target, Constant Contact, MailChimp, etc. They will make complying with the CAN-SPAM rules easier.
